Watching a family member succumb to substance abuse and addiction is not only heartbreaking but damages the very ties that make a family whole. Addiction is a disease–not a phase, not a lack of willpower, and not a form of retaliation.
Addiction is the only potentially fatal illness where an individual fights to stay sick. The goal is to get your loved one to agree to voluntarily get help for substance abuse. A professional intervention is often the best way to get your loved one the help they need.
Southern Sky Recovery offers professional intervention services through Allison Kornblatt, an experienced professional interventionist, addiction counselor, and peer recovery support specialist. Call 843.350.5769 today and learn how our addiction treatment programs and Allison can help you.
What Are Intervention Services?
An intervention is a powerful, structured conversation between an individual struggling with addiction and their friends and family. The goal of an intervention is to help the person see how their substance abuse is negatively impacting their life and the lives of those around them. An intervention can also be a way to help a loved one see that they need to get professional help for their addiction.
In addition, early intervention services help the family to find their own recovery by connecting them with resources and educating them on addiction and mental health conditions, thereby bringing the entire family system into unison and healing.

How to Stage An Intervention
An estimated 13% of people with drug use disorders receive treatment. This staggering statistic shows just how beneficial intervention services in Beaufort County can be in getting your loved one the help that they need to take back their life. While watching your family member struggle with addiction is undoubtedly difficult, and you want your loved one to get better as soon as possible, there are important steps to follow when it comes to staging an intervention.
An intervention may not be effective if you don’t intentionally follow the below intervention steps to stage an addiction intervention the right way. These steps include:
Seeking help from a professional interventionist is essential to staging an effective intervention. A professional interventionist is an expert with experience who’ll know how to stage the intervention. Not to mention, the expert is not a member of the family and thus can give their expert advice without being manipulated by the family member struggling with addiction.
Organize the group of people who will be joining the intervention. This should only be the professional interventionist and close family and friends.
Be intentional and specifically schedule the day, time, location, and the members of the intervention group that will take part in the intervention. Agayou must keep the intervention group to a minimum of people closest to the addict.
Before the intervention, learn more about addiction treatment programs the addict can attend, what you will say during the intervention, and be sure to manage your expectations leading up to the intervention. While the end goal is to get the addict to seek treatment for their addiction, there is certainly a chance that they may deny help, which is something to keep in mind.
Whether the addict decides to seek treatment or not, you must maintain the boundaries you clearly laid out and communicated to the addict during the intervention. This is where you set clear boundaries of consequences that will occur if the addict decides not to seek treatment.

There are many advantages to getting help from intervention services in Beaufort County, such as:
If you have a Beaufort County drug intervention, the expert/interventionist provides an external viewpoint which means they won’t fall victim to manipulation tactics the addict may use on family and friends.
Bringing all the closest family and friends together in one room shows the addict that they are loved and supported by loved ones who will assist as they take part in their recovery journey.
The professional interventionist has years of experience and will be able to guide both the addict and their family and friends through the process and potential next steps.
While it isn’t guaranteed an addict will agree to seek treatment following an intervention, if the addict does decide to seek help, the intervention helps catalyze the beginnings of an addict’s recovery journey.
