What Is An Intensive Outpatient Program For Addiction Treatment?
An IOP is a form of outpatient therapy and a specific level of care provided by an addiction treatment center. As the name implies, it is not a residential program and, in fact, often follows detox and completion of a residential treatment program. It provides limited structure, treatment, and accountability during the day while allowing the client some flexibility to attend to work, school, home, or community duties.
Our Bluffton intensive outpatient program is less demanding than a partial hospitalization program, typically requiring about three hours a day, three days a week. Those hours are devoted to various treatments and activities designed to aid in recovery and prevent relapse. These could include clinical behavioral therapies, like cognitive-behavioral therapy, group therapy, 12-step meetings, or even holistic therapies like meditation or music therapy.
The IOP is for individuals who have integrated coping skills into their lives and are firmly in recovery but still require additional support and care within a structured environment.
